Dominican College’s Health Sciences Program will prepare you for a wide range of careers. You will have a choice of three distinct academic tracks that will prepare you to enter the workforce immediately or to pursue a graduate degree.
Academic Tracks Leading to a B.S in Health Sciences
Designed for students who are one of the following (1) undecided about a health care career (2) , seeking an entry-level career that does not require an advanced degree, or (3) completing undergraduate requirements toward a professional program not offered at Dominican College.
Pre-Occupational Therapy Track:
This track is for students who are committed to pursuing careers as occupational therapists. It will provide you all the prerequisites needed to apply to Dominican College’s Graduate Occupational Therapy program. (A minimum of a master’s degree in occupational therapy is required to become a registered occupational therapist.)* Learn more.
Pre-Physical Therapy Track:
This track is for students who are committed to pursuing careers as physical therapists. It will provide you all the prerequisites needed to apply to Dominican College’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program. (A Doctor of Physical Therapy degree is required to practice as a physical therapist). Learn more.
Pre-Athletic Training Track (pending NYSED approval):
This track is for students who are committed to pursuing careers as athletic trainers. Effective 2022, anyone seeking to work as athletic trainers must hold a minimum of a master’s degree in athletic training. This track will provide you all the prerequisites needed to apply to most graduate athletic training programs. Additionally, Dominican College has secured articulation agreements with several graduate athletic training programs that guarantees preference in selection to the highest qualifying graduates of this degree track. *
* Students in pre-professional tracks must achieve and maintain certain minimum course grades and cumulative grade point averages (GPA). Refer to additional information in the College Catalog about each pre-professional track for specific details and recommended curriculum patterns for scheduling courses.
Health Sciences Core Required Courses (All tracks):
- Health Sciences: 21 credits
- Liberal Arts & Sciences required courses (many meet the General Education Curriculum requirements): 64 credits
General Track – 122 credits minimum
Pre-Occupational Therapy Track – 126 credits minimum
Pre-Physical Therapy Track – 126 credits minimum
Pre-Athletic Training Track – 128 credits minimum
Please note that the Health Sciences degree option is currently only available to students who are sophomores or freshmen during the 2019-2020 academic year.
