Scholarship Dinner 2018

The Dominican College Scholarship Recognition Dinner took place on October 29, 2018. Many donors, alumni, faculty, students and their families attended the scholarship dinner recognizing the academic efforts of students currently enrolled at Dominican. Some of the scholarships that students received were The Lavelle Fund Scholarship, the Karl Walker Memorial Scholarship, the Coca Cola Company Scholarship, and the Sue Heller Memorial Scholarship.

Returning winners and new winners were introduced by President Sr. Mary Eileen O’Brien, Vice President for Enrollment Management, Brian Fernandes, and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Thomas Nowak. Honorees were introduced with a description of their scholarship, followed by a list of their academic credentials in earning the scholarship. Following their introduction, scholarship winners took pictures with Sr. Mary Eileen O’Brien, Brian Fernandes, and Dr. Thomas Nowak.

After all the scholarship winners were introduced, those in attendance enjoyed a Thanksgiving type of dinner featuring turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing. The dining staff from the Granito Center catered the meal in a buffet style format for all attendees.

Following the dinner portion of the ceremony, remarks regarding the honors of the ceremony were made by Dorothy Filoramo, who serves as Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Dominican. Afterwards, Denzel Edwards, a Dominican College student wrapped up the ceremony with his closing remarks. In addition, Denzel earned the Riversville Foundation Scholarship, a renewable scholarship given to students to promote college enrollment and completion. Those in attendance were then treated to dessert and coffee, once again catered by the Granito Center staff.

Overall, almost 100 students were honored for their academic efforts at the 2018 Dominican College Scholarship Recognition Dinner, making it the largest Scholarship Dinner to date. With many donors, alumni, faculty, students and their families in attendance, it made for an incredible night honoring the excellence occurring on the campus of Dominican College.
