Food Pantry to Expand Services Thanks to Donation

The Dominican College food pantry is planning to expand its services, thanks to a $500 donation from the Rockland Community Foundation and Inserra Supermarkets.

Melissa Leigh Grau, Dominican College Director of Community Engagement and Leadership Development, said that the donation of the Shop Rite gift card will be used to better serve students. “Our plan is to split it into smaller gift cards for Shop Rite so that our students are able to get perishable items,” she said.

The pantry is located in the Sullivan Library and is open on Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The idea behind the pantry is to help students so they are able to pursue an education with as few barriers as possible.  Grau said each day the pantry is opened, between 14 and 27 students are served.
