Chief of Patrol William Barbera, Rockland County Sheriff’s Office has been with the department for nearly 30 years. In 2006, the Chief graduated from the prestigious F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Chief Barbera will discuss careers and new technology in crime scene investigation (CSI) and show a slideshow of actual crime scene photos. **Please be advised the images are extremely graphic**
9:45-10:15 Community Prosecutions
Rockland County District Attorney Tom Zugibe, has over 38 years of experience in the New York State legal system and was elected
as Rockland County District Attorney three times. As Rockland County District Attorney, Mr. Zugibe aggressively prosecuted the worst offenders. During his decade-long tenure as District Attorney, the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office maintained an average 96% conviction rate, regularly surpassing the statewide average for felony convictions. Mr. Zugibe’s Community Prosecution model received the Association of Prosecuting Attorneys (APA) “Innovative Community Engagement” (I.C.E.) Award, a national honor recognizing individuals and prosecution offices that demonstrate creative leadership in community prosecution.
10:20-11:00 Legal Careers
Christie D’Alessio was recently appointed as Greenburgh Town Judge. After she was inspired by Chief Judge Janet Difiore during a Judicial Externship in Westchester County Court, Ms. D’Alessio worked with the Westchester County Attorney’s office for 13 years as a litigator handling cases in local, state and federal court. Ms. D’Alessio has been writing decisions for the Westchester County and Supreme Court where she continuously demonstrates compassion, professionalism and respect for those who appear before the court. Ms. D’Alessio is a member of the Women’s Bar Association and as a member of the Greenburgh Town Court seeks to develop internship programs, alternatives to incarceration and programs available to improve the reduction of recidivism.
11:15-12:30 National and Local Drug Enforcement
Associate Special Agent Christopher Roberts and Assistant Special Agent Dennis Acheson work for the Drug Enforcement Administration for over 20 years. Mr. Roberts has held various leadership positions throughout his career in DEA, including a tour in the Special Operations Division, which focused on disrupting large transnational criminal organizations. He is currently the Associate Special Agent in Charge of the New York Strike Force, comprised of multiple federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. Mr. Acheson was a former NYS Police Trooper and is currently Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the New York Division of the DEA.
