BS in Nursing for Career Changers

Weekday Option (ABSN)

This full-time, 12-month, 58 credit program includes all of the components of a traditional nursing degree in an accelerated, trimester format. Course work and clinicals take place during the week, Monday through Friday. The weekday option begins in May, the Tuesday after Memorial Day. All graduates are eligible to take the state licensing examination (NCLEX).

Minimum requirements for consideration:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 2.7.
  • Cumulative coursework is NOT considered for the 2.7 GPA. The GPA of a 2.7 must be from the bachelor’s degree specifically.
  • If ineligible for the accelerated programs due to not having a bachelor’s degree GPA of at least a 2.7 you may consider our Traditional Undergraduate Nursing option. You can access more information about this option here.
  • The ABSN program does not require the TEAS exam.

  • Introduction to Sociology
  • Developmental Psychology I**
  • Developmental Psychology II**
  • General Psychology
    ** A Developmental Psychology Lifespan course satisfies both Developmental Psychology I & II

Sciences*

  • General Chemistry I*
  • Biochemistry*
  • Anatomy & Physiology I*
  • Anatomy & Physiology II*
  • Microbiology*
  • Pathophysiology*
    *These courses must be completed within the past 10 years with a grade of a B- or better. If you meet the minimum grade requirement of a B- but your course was taken more than 10 years ago, you may be eligible to take a challenge examination in order to receive credit for the course. When you submit your application along with your official transcripts, the Office of Admissions will determine if you are eligible and will let you know how to proceed with this option.

Prerequisite coursework may be taken at Dominican College or can be transferred in through the Office of Admissions.

At the time you submit your application you do not have to have all prerequisites completed.  However, the prerequisites must be completed prior to starting the program.

Corporate/Hospital Reimbursement Policy

If your employer provides tuition reimbursement, your tuition will be deferred until the term is completed.

Application Process

  • Submit your application to the Office of Admissions, including official transcripts from every institution where you have studied. International students must provide an evaluated copy of their credits (such as through WES, Globe Language Services, ECE, etc.)
  • The Office of Admissions will process your application and conduct a credit evaluation to determine if you have completedthe prerequisites.
  • If you meet the minimum requirement of having a bachelor’s degree GPA of a 2.7 you will receive an acceptance package to the College. The package will include a list of any  additional prerequisite courses you may need to complete.
  • Once your application has been processed by the Office of Admissions, your documents will be sent to the Nursing department for a final admissions decision.
  • If you are granted a seat in the program itself, any outstanding prerequisites must be completed prior to starting the program in May.

Deadline

  • Application materials (application and  official transcripts) must be submitted to the Office of Admission by November 1 to be considered for the following May.

Over 90 percent of our students receive some form of financial aid. Your Financial Assistance may include, federal and state grants, and Dominican College need-based grant-in-aid.
