What is an “Athletic Trainer”?
The Certified Athletic Trainer is a highly educated and skilled professional specializing in athletic health care. In cooperation with physicians and other allied health personnel, the athletic trainer functions as an integral member of the athletic health care team in secondary schools, colleges and universities, sports medicine clinics, professional sports programs and other athletic health care settings.

What is the “NATA”?
The National Athletic Trainers Association is the professional body of Certified Athletic Trainers. The mission of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association is to enhance the quality of health care for athletes and those engaged in physical activity, and to advance the profession of athletic training through education and research in the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries.

The Athletic Training Program strongly urges all students to become student members of the NATA. This membership, presented in AT 223, will allow a student to become a participating member of the NATA as well as staying abreast with the latest information in the Journal of Athletic Training as well as the NATA News. Additionally, membership in the NATA allows the student to be eligible for scholarships presented by the NATA as well as state and regional scholarship opportunities.

What is the “NATABOC”?
The National Athletic Trainers Association, Board of Certification is the agency which is responsible for certification of Athletic Trainers. The Mission of the NATA Board of Certification is to certify athletic trainers and to identify for the public, quality health care professionals through a system of certification, adjudication, standards of practice and continuing competency programs.

What is “CAATE”?
Dominican College is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).  The program has been placed on Probation as of February 11, 2020, by the CAATE, 6850 Austin Center Blvd., Suite 100, Austin, TX 78731-3101.The program has chosen to Voluntarily Withdraw its Accreditation effective August 27, 2021.  The program will remain on Probation until the Withdraw is effective and the program is closed.
