The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) offered at Dominican College is specifically designed for college graduates seeking a second degree. The Weekend ABSN Option offers students who are interested in pursuing the study of nursing, opportunities to develop competencies needed for excellence, leadership, and service in tomorrow’s health care arena.
LENGTH OF PROGRAM
Weekend ABSN classes begin each May and continue for twenty four consecutive months. Students attend classes and participate in clinical experiences for six trimesters of twelve weekends each.
The following pre-requisite courses are offered at Dominican College and must be completed prior to admission to nursing courses:
- Anatomy and Physiology I and II (8 credits w /lab)
- Chemistry and Biochemistry (7 credits w/ lab)
- Microbiology (4 credits w/ lab)
- Integrative Physiology (4 credits)
- General Psychology (3 credits)
- Developmental PsychologyI and II (6 credits)
- Sociology (3 credits)
ADMISSION
Weekend ABSN applicants must hold a baccalaureate
degree and demonstrate a minimum of C+ in all pre-requisite science courses, as well as an undergraduate
Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.7. Candidates complete an application for admission, and submit all supporting documents for review to the Office of Admissions.
