The Career Development Center offers many services to help students and alumni make the transition from college to professional life. Some of the services include:
FOCUS A Career & Education Planning System
FOCUS is an internet based career and education planning system designed to provide Dominican College students with a personalized career and education exploration and planning. FOCUS is easy to use, provides complete self-assessment tools, and contains the most comprehensive occupational and educational information database for use by students online. To obtain the password to access FOCUS, Dominican College students must contact the Career Development Center. Click here to access FOCUS.
The Career Development Center assists students in identifying their skills, interests, values, strengths, and career preferences, and in developing a realistic career and job search plan. Part time jobs and internships are posted on the Dominican College portal under Student Life. For additional information on job listings, please visit the Career Development Center.
Internship opportunities give students hands-on work experience in business, industry, non-profit organizations and government. These experiences complement and expand the student’s total learning experience by affording the chance to test theories learned in the classroom with actual practice in the workplace.
Internship opportunities included companies such as, Official Offices of Rockland County and Orange County, various Police Departments, St. Dominic’s Home, Good Samaritan Hospital, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Emmis Communications, Nathan Kline Institute, Head Start of Rockland and Orange County, and Octagon Inc.. Some internships are for credit only, while others may offer a stipend for expenses and at times, some may be paid. Employers establish the salary rate.
For more information and to obtain an internship enrollment packet, which must be signed and approved by your Academic Advisor, please visit the Career Development Center.
