Athletic Training at Dominican College
The primary goal of the Bachelor of Science program in Athletic Training is to prepare qualified entry-level Certified Athletic Trainers (A.T.C.s) for service in schools, colleges, professional athletic organizations, sports medicine clinics, and a growing range of non-sports health care settings.
Through a combination of classroom instruction and clinical experience, the program is designed to:
- Prepare students to assume immediate responsibility and future leadership in the prevention of injuries
- Emergency care management
- Rehabilitation of various injuries and/or illnesses; in program organization and administration; and in the educational and counseling aspects of athletic training
The Dominican College Athletic Training Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The program has been placed on Probation as of February 19, 2016 by the CAATE, 6850 Austin Center Blvd., Suite 100, Austin, TX 78731-3101.
The Bachelor of Science program in Athletic Training has been reviewed and authorized by the New York State Education Department. The program also holds national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
Graduates of accredited programs are able to sit for the national certification examination administered by the Board of Certification (BOC).
