Teacher Education

Here are some of the reasons to consider Dominican College:

  • The intimacy and attention of a small college: The graduate education program at Dominican College is committed to small class sizes.
  • Dedicated faculty members: Available to counsel you by phone, email and in person.

Three programs to meet your needs.
Dominican College offers two programs leading to the Master of Science in Education:

  • Teacher of Students with Disabilities (SWD), including those with Severe and Multiple Disabilities
  • Teacher of Students Who Are Blind or Visually impaired (TVI)
  • Childhood Education program for career changers who have a bachelor’s degree in a non-teacher education area but seek Childhood Education certification

Accommodating schedules

  • Classes in SWD meet every third weekend or six times per trimester. Classes in TVI meet twice per trimester with the rest of the instruction online. Both programs should be completed in two years.

Accelerated learning

  • Seniors majoring in education with GPAs of 3.0 or better are invited to apply to Dominican College's SYROP Program (Senior Year Overlap) and begin Masters coursework during their final undergraduate year. The program allows senior students (from Dominican College or any other qualified institution) to concurrently complete their last year of college during their first year of graduate study.

Distance learning

  • Aside from two weekends per trimester, classes in the TVI Program meet online. One current student lives in Syracuse; another lives in Canada.

Financial Support

  • Dominican College’s financial aid department works closely with students to identify all sources of financial assistance.
