SW 461 Methods of Social Research I (3)

An introduction to the logic and structure of social research and its relevance to human service practitioners, this course familiarizes students with the fundamental skills of critical thinking, including reading, assessing, and integrating social science data. Students are introduced as well to common logical fallacies and how to recognize them. These skills are applied to the recognition and construction of hypotheses, problem formulation, and research design–particularly the logic of the literature review. Students pose a research question and prepare a full literature review.
