HI 446V War and Society (3)

This course explores the questions of what is war, what are its causes, why do societies make the decision to go to war, and what impact in turn does war have upon the individual and upon society itself. Beginning with an exploration of the origins of war in the prehistoric era, the course ponders these developments using selected topics in Euro-pean and American history and incorporating an interdisciplinary approach that considers the social, psychological, technological, political, ideological, and ethical dimensions of war.
